Warehouse Infrastructure

Agro Fresh Global operates warehouse facilities across Indonesia designed for tropical spice storage, with climate-appropriate conditions and full lot traceability.

Purpose-Built for Spice Storage

Storing spices in a tropical climate is not the same as warehousing grain or general commodities. Temperature swings, ambient humidity, and pest pressure all threaten product quality between processing and shipment. Our warehouse infrastructure is designed specifically to address these challenges.

Every facility in our network serves the same purpose: maintaining the quality achieved during processing until the product is loaded into an export container.

Storage Conditions

Spices are hygroscopic -- they absorb moisture from the air. In Indonesia's equatorial climate, uncontrolled storage can raise moisture content by several percentage points within weeks, creating conditions for mold and aflatoxin development. Our facilities manage this with:

  • Ventilation systems designed for tropical conditions, maintaining air circulation without introducing excess humidity
  • Elevated palletized storage using food-grade pallets to prevent ground moisture contact. No product touches concrete floors.
  • Dehumidification in critical storage zones where ambient humidity exceeds safe thresholds
  • Temperature monitoring with logged readings to verify conditions remain within specification

Capacity and Locations

Our warehouse network is positioned near both sourcing regions and export ports, minimizing transit time in both directions.

Central Processing Warehouse

Our primary facility handles the bulk of inventory staging for mace, nutmeg, and cloves. This is where processed product is received from our processing lines, allocated to orders, and prepared for export packaging.

  • Multi-hundred ton capacity across segregated storage zones
  • Direct connection to our processing facility for efficient product flow
  • Staging area for container loading with covered dock access

Regional Collection Warehouses

Smaller facilities located in our sourcing regions (Maluku, North Sulawesi, Java) serve as consolidation points. Raw product is received from farmers, undergoes initial sorting, and is staged for transport to the central facility.

These regional warehouses are simpler in design but still maintain the fundamentals: elevated storage, ventilation, and pest control.

Inventory Management

Every lot that enters our warehouse system is tracked from receipt through dispatch.

  • Lot identification -- Each lot carries its processing batch number, linked back to origin data (farming community, harvest date, grade classification)
  • FIFO rotation -- First-in, first-out management ensures product freshness and prevents aging in storage
  • Grade segregation -- Different quality grades are stored separately to prevent any possibility of mixing
  • Allocation tracking -- When an order is confirmed, specific lots are allocated and reserved, giving buyers certainty about exactly what they will receive

Pest Management

Tropical warehousing demands active pest management. Our approach combines prevention with monitoring:

  • Facility design that minimizes entry points for insects and rodents
  • Regular inspection schedules with documented findings
  • Fumigation capability for pre-shipment treatment when required by destination countries
  • Compliance with international food safety standards for stored commodity management

From Warehouse to Container

When an order is ready to ship, the transition from warehouse to export container follows a controlled sequence:

  1. Allocated lots are pulled and verified against order specifications
  2. Product is packaged according to buyer requirements (see our export process for packaging details)
  3. Pre-shipment quality samples are drawn for final verification
  4. Container loading is supervised to ensure proper stacking, dunnage, and load distribution
  5. Container is sealed with a documented seal number for transit security

Our warehousing is not glamorous work, but it is essential. The best sourcing and processing in the world means nothing if the product degrades in storage before it reaches the buyer. We treat storage as a critical quality control stage, not an afterthought.
